Modern Persian Cuisine
Saffron-scented rice, charcoal-kissed kababs, and slow-cooked stews — served in the heart of Oyster Bay.
Our story
Toranj — Persian for bitter orange — is a love letter to the flavours of Iran, reimagined for Dar es Salaam. From the first sip of saffron tea to the final bite of walnut-crusted baklava, every dish is prepared with the patience the tradition demands.
Our kitchen is built on charcoal, herbs and slow time. Skewers are hand-minced, rice is layered with butter and saffron, and stews simmer until the aromatics of dried lime and pomegranate fold into the meat.
Come for the food. Stay for the tea. Leave feeling like family.

"I never expected to experience the flavours of traditional Persian cuisine again, let alone in Dar es Salaam, but this restaurant delivered an unforgettable experience. The ambience evoked memories of the vast gardens I once visited in Tehran — calm, lush and relaxing. The dishes were presented like royal Persian court cuisine: vibrant, artfully arranged and visually enticing. A hidden gem for anyone looking to explore Persian culture through cuisine."
"Loved the atmosphere, the food, the saffron tea, the service. Highly recommend the jujeh torsh with rice and the mixed mezze! One of the best atmospheres in Dar as they have a beautiful garden with two fountains and benches!"
"The garden setting is gorgeous and is available for private events. We had their new charcoal-grilled fish and it was excellent. Very quiet ambiance, conducive to good conversation with friends. Food 5/5 · Service 5/5 · Atmosphere 5/5."
